Michigan’s defensive line depth is getting a little thinner.

On Monday afternoon, Reuben Jones announced that he would be departing from Ann Arbor as a graduate transfer following the semester. Jones had reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal but confirmed his decision via Twitter.

“I want to first give thanks to Coach Harbaugh, Coach Brown, the coaching staff and the strength and conditioning staff for giving me the opportunity to touch the Michigan banner and play at the University of Michigan while becoming the best me on and off the field,” Jones wrote. “After this semester I will be graduating and also leaving the University of Michigan for my last year of eligibility.”

Jones would’ve been in a tough battle along the defensive line next season. He would’ve likely been a rotation player for the Wolverines.

During his career at Michigan, Jones played in eight games and recorded seven tackles. He had one stop for loss. Jones appeared in four games in 2018 for the Wolverines.

As a graduate transfer, Jones will be immediately eligible to participate in the 2019 season. He did not mention any potential landing spots.
