Michigan DL earns Defensive MVP honors at Hula Bowl
Sunday’s Hula Bowl saw a great performance out of Michigan defensive lineman Carlo Kemp.
Though Team ‘Aina was defeated 15-13, Kemp may have had the play of the day, recording a 64-yard pick-six off Team Kai quarterback KJ Costello with under 2 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. Kemp’s touchdown narrowed a 15-7 gap down to a 2-point game, giving Team ‘Aina an opportunity to tie with a 2-point conversion.
The 2-point try failed and Team Kai held on for a 15-13 victory in the Hula Bowl. But for his effort, Kemp was rewarded with some individual honors.
Kemp was named the Team ‘Aina Defensive MVP for the contest. He registered 4 tackles in addition to his interception returned for a touchdown in the game. Fellow B1G star and former Iowa running back Mekhi Sargent was named the team’s Offensive MVP for the day.
Sargent totaled 61 yards on 6 carries and also caught a pass for 18 yards.
Not a bad showing from Kemp, who has totaled 81 tackles, including 10 for loss, during his career with the Wolverines. On Sunday, though, he made one of the best plays of his college career.
