It’s almost time for Michigan football to return to the field. Michigan kicks off the 2021 season with a home matchup on Sept. 4 vs. Western Michigan (12 p.m. EST/ESPN).

In advance of the opener, Michigan named its team captains.

Michigan’s captains this season will be linebacker Josh Ross, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, wide receiver Ronnie Bell, and offensive lineman Andrew Vastardis. Last season, Ross recorded 53 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Hutchinson totaled 13 tackles in 2020. Bell hauled in 26 receptions for 401 yards and a touchdown last season.

Michigan is coming off a 2-4 season in the shortened 2020 campaign. That marked the first losing season since Jim Harbaugh took over the program in 2015. Michigan tied for the B1G East title in 2018 but hasn’t won the overall B1G title since 2004.

In other Michigan news, junior quarterback Cade McNamara signed a deal with More Management, LLC, a Los Angeles-based cryptocurrency company.
