Thursday didn’t bring good news to Michigan’s offensive line.

Offensive tackle Andrew Stueber suffered a led injury that has him listed as “out indefinitely.” Stueber was in a battle for the starting job with Jalen Mayfield.

Last season, Stueber appeared in 13 games for the Wolverines in 2018 and started twice at right tackle. The injury certainly hurts from a depth standpoint.

However, Michigan OL coach Ed Warriner talked about the battle between the two — before the injury — and called Mayfield a starter:

“This fall it has been 50/50 rotating between the 1’s and 2’s,” He said. “In the spring game, it was the same way. Neck and neck. Hard to say there was any separation there. Jalen is a quality player. He is athletic, fast, very competitive, learns well and we are excited about him. He will do a great job at tackle. He was a starter in our mind. We thought we had six starters, now we have five and we will continue to move forward with the backups from there.”

Again, Warriner said “He was a starter in our mind,” when talking about Mayfield. He also said that he thought the team had six starters, but now has five. Well, that would indicate that Mayfield will start and the other positions on the offensive line are locked in terms of who is starting, no?
