Karan Higdon and Chris Evans might be more ready for Saturday’s B1G opener than we previously expected.

Wednesday, Angelique Chengelis of the Detroit News reported that Michigan’s top two running backs are expected to be available for this weekend’s matchup against Nebraska. That’s according to UM running backs coach Jay Harbaugh.

Higdon has been at full speed in practice and Evans has “done what has been asked.”

Higdon and Evans have been the top two ball-carriers for Michigan this season. In three games, the duo has combined for 400 yards and four touchdowns.

Higdon did not appear in the Wolverines’ 45-20 win over SMU last Saturday.

Michigan’s offense has been able to run the ball effectively over the last two weeks. Nebraska’s defense has surrendered just 187 yards on the ground through two games this season. The return of Higdon and Evans would be a huge boost against that Huskers defense.

The availability of Michigan’s running backs was just one piece of the injury puzzle this week. Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez is still day-to-day headed into the matchup.

Michigan enters Saturday’s game with a  2-1 record. Nebraska is 0-2. The head-to-head matchup serves as the B1G opener for both teams.
