Michigan has completed Sherrone Moore’s first staff at Michigan with the reported hire of Louisiana defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan.

Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported that Morgan impressed Michigan during the interview process and came recommended from ex-Michigan DC Jesse Minter, whom he worked with at Vanderbilt. Zenitz also noted that Louisiana ranked No. 1 nationally in defensive touchdowns this past season and top-35 in takeaways, sacks and defensive yards per play.

Louisiana was 14th nationally in interceptions in 2022 and also top-25 in pass efficiency defense.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Vanderbilt (2012-13), then later coached at Houston and Western Carolina.

Morgan was standout safety for the Ragin’ Cajuns from 2003-07, and returned to Lafayette after he spent the 2021 season as the cornerbacks coach at Vanderbilt. In his first year back with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Morgan’s defense ranked in the top half of the Sun Belt in total defense and the team recorded 15 interceptions which ranked 14th nationally.
