One of Urban Meyer’s first picks as an NFL head coach could be a former Michigan star.

Meyer’s Jaguars are widely expected to select Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick, but that’s not their only pick of the first round. The Jags also own the No. 25 overall pick.

According to the NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, Michigan defensive lineman Kwity Paye is a strong contender to be picked by the Jags at 25.

Here’s what Schrager wrote about the potential pick:

“Urban Meyer knows that building a champion starts from the inside out. Paye could be the first pass rusher off the board; I could also see him being around in the 20s. Solid value, if he is.”

Paye had a standout season for the Wolverines in 2020. He recorded four tackles for loss, two sacks and made a big impact in other areas of the game throughout the shortened season.

Paye’s range seems to stretch from the late teens all the way through the end of the first round. He’s one of seven Big Ten players expected to be selected in the first round, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.

The NFL draft is April 29-May 1.
