Michigan and Alabama are trading blows in the first half, and one questionable call against the Wolverines helped Alabama retake the lead with a touchdown.

The call came on what initially appeared to be a third-down stop for Jim Harbaugh’s squad. A heated pass rush got home to Crimson Tide QB Mac Jones with Jones simply getting rid of the ball as the pressure arrived. Unfortunately, Aidan Hutchinson was flagged for roughing the passer which gave Alabama a first down in the red zone.

It initially appeared that Hutchinson arrived just as Jones got rid of the ball, and he even avoided targeting or helmet-to-helmet contact on the hit. That, apparently, didn’t matter on this play:

Alabama scored soon after to retake a 14-13 lead. Fortunately, the Wolverines were able to drill a long field goal to end the half, but those seven points could prove crucial later on for the Tide.
