If you were concerned about how well Shea Patterson played in Michigan’s season opener against Middle Tennessee, there may be a good reason behind it.

Following Michigan’s 40-21 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Dylan McCaffrey saw more playing time in the second half — particularly on designed runs — because Patterson was “working through something” during halftime. He didn’t want to run the risk of making it worse.

On Tuesday night, Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller said that Patterson may have suffered an injury on the first play of the game. The Michigan quarterback was hit and fumbled the football on the first drive.

Miller said that, according to his sources, Patterson had a lower body injury that bothered him the rest of the game. He is, however, back at full strength and should be ready to go in Week 2 against Army.

Patterson had a solid outing, completing 17-of-29 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. He added 28 yards on nine carries.

Michigan will have a tough task this weekend, playing an Army team that hit the double-digit win mark a year ago. But if Patterson is back to full strength, we could see him perform a little bit better than he opened the year.
