Warde Manuel is trying to hang onto Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s head football coach.

The AD for the Wolverines has seen it all during Harbaugh’s tenure in Ann Arbor. Fortunately, that includes a huge 3-season turnaround for the program after a losing season in the shortened 2020 campaign.

Now, Michigan is heading to the CFP National Championship after its first Playoff win in program history. However, the future of Harbaugh with the Wolverines beyond this season remains murky.

According to reports, a contract extension for Harbaugh is on the table, but the head coach has not yet signed. That is presumably related to interest from the NFL with many expecting the head coach to receive heavy interest from teams in the league this offseason.

Following the Rose Bowl, Manuel was asked by one reporter if he would try and get Harbaugh to sign his extension on the flight back to Ann Arbor. Manuel offered a brief response but admitted he’s “been working on it” when it comes to Harbaugh.

“Hey brother, I’m working on it. Believe me,” said Manuel. “I’ve been working on it.”

On one hand, that doesn’t sound entirely optimistic from Manuel. On the other hand, he’s unlikely to say anything in-depth before the situation is resolved, so fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
