Harlon Barnett, on Michigan State’s weekly coaches’ show on Thursday, provided an update on the status of a defensive tackle who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Simeon Barrow, a redshirt junior, had totaled 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2023, with 93 tackles and 8.5 sacks to his credit during his college career. He made 2 tackles in the Spartans’ 49-0 loss to Michigan in Week 8.

Days later, Barrow decided to enter the transfer portal. But on Thursday, he changed his mind, per Barnett.

The 3 other players that have entered the portal — offensive lineman Keyshawn Blackstock, running back Jordon Simmons, and long snapper Hank Pepper — appear to have opted to remain there for now, although, of course, they are free to withdraw as Barrow did.

Michigan State has been rocked by the firing of Mel Tucker, who was accused of sexual misconduct by Brenda Tracy. A university investigation found on Wednesday that Tucker violated its sexual harassment policy.

Barnett was appointed as the program’s interim head coach following the firing of Tucker. The Spartans currently sit at 2-5 (0-4 B1G) and have lost their last 5 games. They next travel to Minneapolis to face Minnesota.
