Katin Houser is the new starting quarterback for Michigan State. Noah Kim opened the season as the starter for the Spartans, but the team is mired in a 3-game losing streak with interim coach Harlon Barnett making the switch for Week 7.

Right out of the gate, Houser provided a spark and showed glimpses of what he can do for MSU. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on the game’s opening drive for 42 yards. He also delivered a striking blow by finding Montorie Foster Jr. from 13 yards out with a bullet over the middle.

The connection with Foster gives Houser his first career TD pass in East Lansing:

During the drive, Houser also found Maliq Carr for a 13-yard pickup. The QB also had a 7-yard carry to his credit and picked up a fumble recovery after a botched hand-off on a crucial 4th-down play.

Houser arrived at Michigan State as a 4-star prospect and highly-touted QB in the 2022 recruiting class. He had just 2 pass attempts as a true freshman and was 9-for-16 for 158 yards and an interception in limited action this season.

We’ll see how the rest of Week 7 vs. Rutgers shapes up, but Houser was impressive on the opening drive.
