Michigan State erased its losing streak with a win over Rutgers, and the Spartans still have a chance to reach bowl eligibility.
The showdown with Rutgers came at a perfect time to get the offense rolling. Brian Lewerke had a good showing, Elijah Collins rushed for 100 yards, and wide receiver Cody White stole the show with 11 catches and three touchdowns.
It was a complete performance for the Spartans as the defense also tossed a shutout in the 27-0 victory. After the win, head coach Mark Dantonio admitted it was nice to get to sing the fight song for the first time in a while:
Dantonio says it was good to get the monkey off their backs and snap the losing streak. "We haven't sang the fight song in a while, so it felt good.'

Dantonio went on to highlight the fact that the Spartans can still get win No. 6 on the final weekend of the regular season. That game will come in East Lansing against Maryland:
Dantonio: "Got a chance to play for No. 6 next week."

In what has been a rough season for the Spartans, putting an end to the losing streak has to feel nice. Getting a chance to become bowl eligible in a lost season should also not be overlooked. Hopefully, Michigan State takes care of the Terrapins at home.
