Michigan State basketball is indeed adding another marquee nonconference matchup to the 2023-24 schedule, the program confirmed Tuesday morning.

Last month, head coach Tom Izzo hinted at the likelihood of playing Arizona in a neutral-site contest. That matchup — to be played in California — was confirmed Tuesday.

On Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23), the Spartans will face the Wildcats in the inaugural Acrisure Classic. The game will be played at Acrisure Arena in Greater Palmer Springs, California.

Per the release, the Classic is part of the Acrisure Invitational, a multi-day tournament that will be headlined by Michigan State vs. Arizona. The game will be broadcast on FOX at 4:30 pm ET, immediately following the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Thanksgiving showdown.

The game featuring the Spartans and Wildcats will be the first college basketball game played at Acrisure Arena. The venue was first opened in December 2022.

Michigan State and Arizona have 7 previous head-to-head meetings with the Spartans going 2-5 in those games. Under Izzo, Michigan State is 2-3 against the Wildcats.

While some key pieces are testing the NBA Draft waters, Michigan State will have high expectations heading into next season. A major recruiting class for Izzo and some key returners — including Tyson Walker — have the Spartans in a position to compete for the B1G title in 2023-24.
