Michigan State will be honoring Zachary Winston, the brother of star guard Cassius Winston, in a special way on Thursday night during the Spartans’ matchup with Seton Hall.

A few hours prior to tipoff, Michigan State announced via social media that it will be wearing patches on the team jersey to honor Zachary Winston, who was tragically killed last week after being struck by a train. The patch reads “Smoothie,” which was Zachary’s nickname.

Below is the message Michigan State sent out on Thursday.

Zachary was attending Albion College in Michigan and was a member of the basketball program. The accident occurred last Saturday night.

The following evening, Cassius Winston decided to play in Michigan State’s home opener against Binghamton. He finished the game with 17 points and 11 assists in a 100-47 victory.

Tipoff between Michigan State and Seton Hall is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on FS1.
