Michigan State basketball is gearing up for the 2023-24 season with some high expectations. Tom Izzo’s squad will put those expectations to the test with some major matchups during nonconference play.

On Thursday, the Spartans officially unveiled the full slate for nonconference play. Prior to the start of the regular season, Michigan State will face Tennessee in a charity exhibition game in East Lansing.

Once the regular season tips off, the Spartans will play a trio of key games at neutral sites. That group of games includes matchups against Duke, Arizona and Baylor. The Spartans will also play Butler and wrap up the nonconference slate against Indiana State.

Here is the full non-B1G schedule:

  • Oct. 25 — vs. Hillsdale (Exhibition)
  • Oct. 29 — vs. Tennessee (Charity exhibition)
  • Nov. 6 — vs. James Madison
  • Nov. 9 — vs. Southern Indiana
  • Nov. 14 — vs. Duke (in Chicago)
  • Nov. 17 — vs. Butler
  • Nov. 19 — vs. Alcorn State
  • Nov. 23 — vs. Arizona (in Palm Springs)
  • Nov. 28 — vs. Georgia Southern
  • Dec. 16 — vs. Baylor (in Detroit)
  • Dec. 18 — vs. Oakland
  • Dec. 21 — vs. Stony Brook
  • Dec. 29/30 — vs. Indiana State

Coming off of last season, Michigan State returns a number of key veterans to the program. The Spartans also added the No. 5 recruiting class in the country with 5-star big man Xavier Booker and a trio of 4-star players.
