Michigan State made it on ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings as the top team from the B1G. Jeff Borzello had four teams from the B1G make the cut.

The Spartans were the No. 3 team on Borzello’s list. They have a lot of hype coming into the 2023 season especially now that Tyson Walker and Malik Hall are returning for another year.

Tom Izzo led Michigan State to the Sweet 16 despite coming into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. In order to get there the Spartans had to go through No. 10 USC and No. 2 Marquette.

The Spartans fell to Kansas State by a score 98-93 as Izzo’s squad battled till the very end.

It looks like Izzo will be reloading after his 2023 recruiting class was ranked as the fourth-best in the country by 247Sports. 5-star commit Xavier Booker is the gem of Izzo’s 2023 class. Four-star commits Jeremy Fears, Gehrig Normand, and Coen Carr are nothing to scoff at either.

Michigan State could be even scarier if Jaden Akins and A.J. Hoggard return as they maintained their eligibility despite declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft. A return for both Spartans could still be in the cards.

The other B1G schools that made the list were Purdue (No. 16), Wisconsin (No. 22), and Maryland (No. 23).
