Michigan State reportedly promoting current staff member to RBs coach
Michigan State had a vacancy open up on its coaching staff. Reports are now indicating that Mel Tucker and the Spartans are staying in-house for that hiring.
Ahead of the trip to the Peach Bowl, word broke that RBs coach William Peagler was leaving East Lansing for Florida. Now, Michigan State is reportedly turning to Effrem Reed to fill that spot.
That report was relayed by Matt Charboneau with The Detroit News. The original report came from Jason Strayhorn and Brian Mosallam via the duos Inside the Locker Room podcast.
Reed originally joined Mel Tucker’s MSU staff in 2020 as an offensive analyst. He spent 2018-19 as a part of the coaching staff at Louisiana where he played collegiately. As a player, Reed rushed for over 600 yards with the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Strayhorn and Mosallam also indicated that key MSU assistant Chris Kapilovic was courted by other programs, including Lincoln Riley after his move to USC. Fortunately, Kapilovic is sticking in East Lansing.
They also say OL coach and assistant head coach Chris Kapilovic was being chased after by other programs, namely USC and Lincoln Riley, but has decided to stay at MSU https://t.co/8C2MVyfcT3
