Payton Thorne (Naperville Central HS/ Naperville, IL) flipped his commitment from Western Michigan to Michigan State on Friday evening, giving the Spartans their quarterback for the 2019 recruiting class.

Thorne (6-foot-2, 187 pounds) is considered a three-star prospect and a top-25 dual-threat quarterback in his class, per 247Sports. He threw for 3,113 yards and 40 touchdowns as a senior in 2018, rushing for 451 yards and four scores.

In addition to Michigan State and WMU, Thorne held offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Kent State, NC State, New Mexico, and Toledo. He committed to the in-state Broncos earlier this spring but picked up a late offer from the Spartans last week, which sparked an official visit to East Lansing on Monday and Tuesday.

Thorne gives Michigan State 19 commitments for its 2019 class, which ranks 26th in the nation and 6th in the Big Ten.
