MSU basketball is gearing up for a rivalry road trip vs. Michigan Saturday evening in Ann Arbor.

Usually, that type of matchup would be prime to produce loads of content for the social media team of the Spartans. However, Michigan State is approaching things a bit differently.

MSU basketball announced on Twitter Saturday afternoon that the account will scale back coverage of the event in light of the recent shooting in East Lansing. Here is what the statement had to say about the decision:

“We would encourage basketball fans across the state, regardless of your allegiance, to enjoy the game with a friend or loved one if possible.

“As coach Izzo said, we can all do a better job of taking care of one another. We hope tonight provides an opportunity to strengthen those bonds and allows everyone to continue to heal as best they can. Together we are Spartan Strong.”

Saturday’s game is bound to be an emotional one for both sides involved with the Wolverines also doing their best to honor the MSU community in the wake of the tragedy. The primetime tipoff is set for 8 pm ET on FOX.
