Mel Tucker has been building something special in East Lansing. Now, one of the newest Spartans is a big believer that the program is close to knocking on the door of a national title.

After a 2-5 season during the shortened 2020 campaign, Tucker guided Michigan State to an 11-2 record and a win in the Peach Bowl. Kenneth Walker III is off to the NFL after a dramatic year, but Tucker has visited the transfer portal once again to reload for the 2022 season.

One of those pieces to come to East Lansing via the portal is defensive back Ameer Speed. He comes to the Spartans for one final college season after winning a national title at Georgia in 2021. His reaction to Michigan State? Tucker has the Spartans close to competing for the title.

Speed went on to say a number of pieces are coming together at Michigan State. Other players have mentioned his championship with the Bulldogs, but Speed says his focus is on winning another one at his new home.
