Tom Izzo announces decision on Keon Coleman's basketball future at MSU
Tom Izzo released a statement regarding the decision about Michigan State WR Keon Coleman. Coleman has had the luxury of playing both football and basketball while at Michigan State.
Coleman has definitely had more success playing football for the Spartans. Coleman had a breakout year with Michigan State this season, catching 58 passes for 798 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns. On the basketball side Coleman averages 0.8 points and 0.2 rebounds in 6 games played.
Izzo believes that it would be in Coleman’s best interest to stay focused on football per Detroit Free Press’ Chris Solari.
“Keon Coleman and I spoke at length this week and we came to the join decision that it would be best for him to focus on his football career and not join the basketball team at this time. Keon had a great football season and it’s in his best interests to take the next few months to get ready for spring football, while also taking care of his academic obligations.”

The football team may need Coleman next season now that Jayden Reed has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. Coleman actually led all Spartans wideouts in receiving yards, having more than Reed (636).
After the year that Coleman had this past season, it makes sense for him to focus more on the football side of things.
