Tom Izzo is in his 30th season coaching at Michigan State and still going strong while compiling his own legendary career in East Lansing. Now, he’s caught another legendary figure in career wins.

Recently, Izzo officially tied longtime Indiana head coach Bob Knight for the all-time mark in Big Ten wins. The Spartans beat Oregon on Saturday to give Izzo his 353rd B1G win, and MSU will face the Hoosiers on Tuesday with a shot for Izzo to grab the record outright.

At his press conference, Izzo was asked about memories related to coaching against Knight, and Izzo went all the way back to his time as an assistant on Jud Heathcote’s staff facing Knight. He also recalled his first game as MSU’s head coach in Bloomington and a humorous pre-game chat with Knight.

“I have memories of him kind of sneaking up on me in my first game down there, him telling me how bad the officials are going to be and he did it right in front of the officials,” said Izzo. “And the 4 of them laughed and I was scared to death.”

Izzo’s first-ever win in the conference also came at the hands of Indiana in January 1996. That’s a memory Izzo is particularly fond of for how his team found a way to win.

“The first win was against them and we weren’t that good and found a way to win that game. That was a great memory,” Izzo recalled.

As for his best memory with Knight, he recalled beating the Hoosiers in the year that led to Izzo’s national championship with the Spartans.

“Probably one of my best memories was beating them down there the year we won the championship,” admitted Izzo. “He told me that we were good enough to a win a championship after the game. It was great about everything.”

This time around, Michigan State enters as the much better team — on paper — and as an 11-point favorite at home per bet365. Use the Michigan online sports betting sites to take advantage of those odds ahead of a potentially historic game for Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
