Where Michigan State's 2022 recruiting class stands following Wednesday commitment
Michigan State is rolling under head coach Mel Tucker, and those results go beyond the play on the field.
On Wednesday, the Spartans raked in a commitment from 4-star ATH Dillon Tatum. Tatum is one of the top prospects in Michigan for the class of 2022, and his commitment gives Michigan State 4 of the top 10 in-state prospects for the cycle.
According to ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren, Tatum gives the Spartans 4 ESPN 300 commitments for the cycle. That is the highest total for Michigan State since 2016:
ESPN 300 athlete Dillon Tatum just committed to Michigan State.
He’s the fourth ESPN 300 commit in the class for @Coach_mtucker and his staff. That’s the most ESPN 300 commits for the Spartans since 2016 when they had five, second most since the ESPN 300 was started.

Tatum’s commitment also brings Michigan State’s 2022 class up to No. 20 nationally and No. 5 in the B1G, according to the industry-generated composite rankings. The Spartans trail Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, and Rutgers in the conference. As things currently stand, it would be Michigan State’s first top-20 class since the Spartans finished with the No. 17 class in 2016.
