There’s a good chance that Mohamed Ibrahim’s season is over after just three quarters.

Minnesota’s star running back left Thursday night’s game against No. 4 Ohio State late in the 3rd quarter, suffering an apparent lower-leg injury. He walked back to the locker room in a walking boot, indicating his night was over.

It sounds like it could be a lot worse, though. Former NFL team doctor David J. Chao provided his thoughts on the injury, and he believes it’s a season-ending situation.

“Will be OK in long run but not this season,” Chao wrote on Twitter. “By video, clear left Achilles tendon rupture. Fairly classic. Season over and surgery.”

Ibrahim was having a big game for the Golden Gophers, piling up 162 yards and 2 touchdowns on 30 carries. He also turned a 4th-and-1 play into a 56-yard gain that gave Minnesota a boost of momentum in the 1st half.

Last year, Ibrahim was the B1G Running Back of the Year and was considered an outside contender for the Heisman Trophy this year. Unfortunately, it sounds like his year is coming to an end in the season opener.
