Gable Steveson is fresh off winning a gold medal at the Olympics in wrestling for Team USA, but he’s apparently considering a football career.

Steveson, who will be entering his senior season as a wrestler at Minnesota, said he’s been in contact with Gophers coach P.J. Fleck about a role on the football team.

“I’ve considered playing football,” Steveson said on Wednesday’s episode of Pardon My Take. “I talked to Coach Fleck of Gopher Football, and he wanted me to come out before I went to the Olympic Games to to come play for a little bit. But I told him after the Olympic Games, I’d give him an official decision. So I’m considering playing football.”

Steveson also said he has interest in the NFL.

He certainly has the size and athleticism for it. Steveson won the gold medal in the 125 kilogram weight class at the Tokyo Olympics. He pulled off a miraculous comeback by scoring a pair of two-point take downs in the final seconds of the match. He celebrated the win with a backflip:

Steveson visited Minnesota’s football practice on Tuesday and was greeted by Fleck.

It’s getting late in the offseason for Steveson to join the Gophers, but he would certainly be an interesting addition to Minnesota’s depth in the trenches.
