The story of Minnesota holder Casey O’Brien has been well documented this season. The four-time cancer survivor has shared his story of strength and courage a few times throughout the year.

Now, O’Brien is receiving an incredible and admirable award for his strength, courage and fight.

On Tuesday, it was announced that O’Brien will receive the Disney Spirit Award, presented annually to the most inspirational player or team in college football. He will be receiving the award at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12, 2019.

O’Brien first shared his story at B1G Media Days during the Kickoff Luncheon in July. His keynote speech inspired many in attendance and across the country.

Earlier this week, O’Brien also announced he’ll be undergoing another surgery after doctors found a “small spot” on his lung.

This year, O’Brien also participated in his first college football game, playing on special teams in Minnesota’s road win over Rutgers on Oct. 19. He was named the B1G Special Teams Player of the Week after his appearance.

A B1G team or individual has won the Disney Spirit Award three-straight years now. In 2017, Iowa was presented with the award for its new tradition, The Wave. Last year, Purdue superfan, team captain and student Tyler Trent was presented with the award.
