P.J. Fleck updates status of Gophers RB Shannon Brooks following arrest
P.J. Fleck said the status of running back Shannon Brooks, who was reportedly arrested over the weekend, is “evolving” every day.
Sunday night, Brooks was arrested on one count of suspected domestic assault. The situation stemmed from an incident that involved his male roommate. The city attorney’s office, so far, has declined to press charges and Brooks was released from jail on Monday.
Fleck met with the media on Tuesday and talked about Brooks’ status.
“One thing that we are always going to make sure is that we have every bit of information that we possibly can before we make decisions,” Fleck said. “Shannon understands that, and I know our administration understands that as well.”
Brooks has missed the first half of the season due to a knee injury he sustained in spring practice. Though it was expected to be a season-ending injury, there has been anticipation that the running back would be back on the field at some point in the year.
Fleck has remained adamant about Brooks playing in four games or less this season so that he could retain his redshirt status and be fully available next season.
Last season, Brooks appeared in six games for the Gophers, rushing for 369 yards and five touchdowns.
