Tanner Morgan took over for freshman starter Athan Kaliakmanis Thursday at the Pinstripe Bowl. Kaliakmanis left with a right leg injury, but the Gophers were able to solider on regardless.

Minnesota took a 14-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter following a beautiful pass from Morgan to Daniel Jackson in the back corner of the end zone for 6.

Morgan looked good on that drive, too. The 5th-year senior has appeared in 8 games this season, but has not thrown a touchdown pass since Sept. 24 against Michigan State. The veteran starter was benched for Kaliakmanis early in B1G play.

He’s up to 30 yards and 1 touchdown on the afternoon on 4 throws after taking over for Kaliakmanis. Reactions started to pour in regarding Morgan’s heroic return following his incredible TD drive and Minnesota’s hot start.

The Gophers lead 14-7 heading into halftime following a late touchdown drive by Syracuse.
