Tommy Armstrong will get a shot in the Twin Cities after all.

The Vikings announced on Tuesday night that they signed the former Nebraska quarterback. Armstrong, who played several positions while working out for the Vikings, will try and earn a roster spot at safety.

That news came after a back-and-forth with the NFC North squad. Armstrong said that he was originally expected to get another shot with the Vikings after rookie minicamp, only to be cut days later.

But now, Armstrong has an opportunity to make the 53-man roster at a position he hasn’t played since high school.

Armstrong finished his Nebraska career as the program’s all-time leader in starts, total offense, touchdowns, pass completions, touchdown passes and passing yards.

The former Husker signal-caller shifted his attention to receiver, running back and safety during the pre-draft evaluation period.

Perhaps Armstrong’s speed will be best used patrolling the defensive backfield for the Vikings.
