This is a gut-wrenching start to Nebraska’s basketball season.

The Huskers fell to Nevada 69-66 on Thursday afternoon despite holding a lead for most of the game.

The game was tied at 66 in the final seconds before Nevada’s Grant Sherfield hit this game-winning 3-pointer:

The Huskers had a chance to tie it as well, but their 3-point attempt caught iron at the buzzer.

That’s the fifth loss to a non-power conference team of the Fred Hoiberg era at Nebraska, which is just starting its second year.

Guard Teddy Allen led the way for Nebraska on the scoresheet with 17 points. Forward Delano Banton also contributed, scoring 15 points and tossing a team-high four assists.

Nebraska went 9-of-41 from beyond the arc in the loss.

Hoiberg’s first season was also underwhelming. The Huskers went 7-25 a year ago and just 2-18 in Big Ten play.

They’re now 1-1 on the season to start 2020 after a 102-55 win over McNeese State on Wednesday.
