Nebraska is reportedly making a change on the offensive staff in preparation for the 2025 season. That change includes the Huskers adding a new assistant from the SEC.

As of Tuesday, it is being reported that Kentucky wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts will be leaving the Wildcats and becoming the WR coach at Nebraska.

Reports started swirling on Monday that Cornhuskers assistant Garret McGuire, the wide receivers coach for the past two seasons, would not be kept on in that same role.

On Monday, it was announced that Dana Holgorsen would be signing a contract extension to be the offensive coordinator for Nebraska next season. The reports of Shorts heading to Nebraska make a ton of sense as he has a long relationship with Holgorsen, starting in his playing days.

He played his collegiate football at West Virginia from 2013-2016, where Holgorsen was the coach during that time. He was a program assistant for the Mountaineers in 2018 and then went to Houston from 2019-23. He was the director of player personnel in the first year for the Cougars, and then he switched to the WR coach.

Nebraska saw its receivers take a step forward this season after some key additions to the transfer portal, but moving forward with Holgorsen likely necessitated the change for 2025.
