Nebraska updates Week 4 depth chart following season-ending injuries
Nebraska is coming off the program’s first win of the season in Week 3, but head coach Matt Rhule had some disappointing news to share during his weekly press conference.
While at the podium, Rhule announced that starting running back Gabe Ervin Jr. and backup running back Rahmir Johnson have both sustained season-ending injuries. Ervin was the team’s leading rusher through 3 weeks of the season.
Following that announcement, Nebraska has updated its depth chart for Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech. The program will turn to Anthony Grant as the starting RB with Emmett Johnson — a redshirt freshman — at RB2. Johnson was a 3-star prospect out of Minneapolis in the 2022 recruiting class.
Though his injury status for Week 4 is still uncertain, Jeff Sims is still listed as the starting quarterback for Nebraska. Heinrich Haarberg, fresh off his performance in the Week 3 win, is listed as the backup.
While the injuries at running back are certainly a concern, Grant is not unfamiliar with a lead role. He led the Huskers with 915 yards rushing a season ago and finished with over 1,000 yards of offense for the program.
Grant did not open the season as Nebraska’s starter due to struggles with fumbles but there’s no denying his athletic ability. He has 73 rushing yards on the season and will get a chance to cement his spot as Nebraska’s lead back this week.
