Illinois was the first B1G team to get on the board this season, but it was the Huskers who scored the first touchdown.

Nebraska’s Markese Stepp ran it in from short yardage to give Nebraska the second-quarter lead. The Huskers missed the extra point, so they currently lead 6-2 early in the second stanza.

Here’s Stepp’s score:

Stepp also made the big play to get the Huskers into the red zone. He caught a 30-yard pass on a miss-direction play earlier in the drive, and the Huskers were able to convert.

Stepp is in his first season with the Huskers after transferring from USC. Last season, he ran the ball 45 times for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Trojans.

Nebraska is looking to avenge its 41-23 loss to Illinois from last season. The Huskers lead the all-time series with the Illini 13-4-1.
