Oregon State makes decision on QB race involving former Husker
Oregon State has made a decision on its quarterback competition.
Head coach Jonathan Smith has announced that sixth-year quarterback Jake Luton will be the No. 1 quarterback for the Beavers for the season opener. Luton was in a battle with former Nebraska quarterback Tristan Gebbia for the job.
Luton has made nine career starts over the last two years, but has battled injuries throughout his career. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA because of his issues with the injury bug.
In 2018, Luton played in eight games and threw for 1,660 yards and 10 touchdowns. He threw for 853 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 in four appearances.

This year marked the first season Gebbia was able to compete for the starting job. Gebbia transferred to Oregon State before the 2018 season when Adrian Martinez was named the starter for the Huskers. Due to NCAA transfer rules, he was forced to sit out a season.
