Scott Frost was hoping to add a national championship assistant coach to his staff this offseason, but it doesn’t sound like that will be happening.

Friday, Brody Miller of The Athletic reported that LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph turned down the opportunity to be the passing game coordinator and associate head coach at Nebraska. The decision to decline the offer comes just a few days after the Tigers claimed a national championship.

Joseph is a former Nebraska quarterback, playing from 1988-91 in Lincoln.

Joseph has been on Ed Orgeron’s staff at LSU since 2017. This season, the Tigers had some of the top wide receivers in the country with Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Terrace Marshall Jr., and Thaddeus Moss.

LSU’s outstanding wide receiving corps, along with Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow, helped the Tigers produce the nation’s second-best passing attack in 2019.

While Frost offered Joseph a great opportunity, it wasn’t enough to lure him away from LSU.
