Nebraska’s 2019 season-opener wasn’t perfect.

But in the end, the Huskers are 1-0 moving on to Week 2. As long as Nebraska keeps winning, the sky is the limit. However, it’s the way the team won that can give people concern going forward.

The defense was great.

The offense, however, struggled. Sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez finished going 13-for-22 with 178 passing yards, zero TD and one INT.

For a Heisman Trophy candidate, that’s not ideal. Martinez is also known for using his legs, but he took 13 carries for 6 yards. Again, not ideal.

After the game, second-year coach Scott Frost and Martinez both talked about the struggling offense to start 2019:

Frost essentially said that the offense put Martinez in bad spots, but Martinez took his performance and owned it. He said it’s unacceptable, and he is absolutely correct.

If Nebraska wants to win the Big Ten West division — and potentially more — the Huskers’ offense has to play better. That comes down to every single player on that side of the ball.

In Week 2, Nebraska travels to face Colorado.
