Nebraska and head coach Scott Frost have landed their next quarterback, this time via the transfer portal.

After a busy start to the offseason that began with Adrian Martinez leaving the Huskers via the portal, Frost was expected to utilize the portal in bringing in some depth for the QB room. That came to fruition on Friday with Casey Thompson announcing on social media that he is committing to the Huskers.

Thompson was originally a 4-star prospect via the class of 2018 for the Longhorns.

Texas finished at a disappointing 5-7 record in 2021 but Thompson led the team in passing yards and touchdowns while also rushing for 147 yards and 4 touchdowns. Over 3 seasons, Thompson threw for 2,422 yards and 30 touchdowns with 210 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.

Along with Thompson’s commitment, it was previously reported that Chubba Purdy out of Florida State was expected to visit Nebraska next week. It will be interesting to see if Thompson’s move alters the plans for Purdy.

Either way, getting a veteran QB with the experience of Thompson is a nice win for Frost to pair with new OC Mark Whipple.
