Scott Frost is going the extra mile to help his UCF Knights prepare for the Saturday’s game against Navy and the triple option attack run by the Midshipmen.

Rather than just help his team prepare from the sidelines like any normal coach would, Frost is actually reverting back to his old playing days and is serving as the scout-team quarterback during practice this week. Why? Well, there probably isn’t a quarterback quite as effective at running the triple option as Frost, even today.

Frost was an option quarterback while at Nebraska in 1996 and 1997, rushing for over 1,000 yards in his final season with the Cornhuskers. While he used to be prolific in that attack, he’s now helping his team prepare to stop it.

“I love option football,” Frost told the Associated Press. “I lived it. I feel like option quarterbacks now are kind of like giant pandas, they only exist in zoos and military academies now.”

Navy has one of the most prolific option attacks in college football and has become nearly impossible to stop under the direction of Ken Niumatalolo. But maybe with Frost’s “hands-on” approach this week, UCF will be a little better prepared.

This could be one of the biggest non-Power Five match-ups in college football this weekend. The 20th-ranked Knights are 5-0 on the season while the Midshipmen are 5-1.
