Big Ten basketball is almost here, with the official start of the 2023-24 season just around the corner. Ahead of the start of the season, the preseason media poll for the B1G was released on Monday.
The Columbus Dispatch and The Athletic collaborate to compile the “official unofficial media poll” from a select panel of B1G media members. The conference itself does not conduct a preseason media poll.

Leading the way on the preseason poll is Purdue. The Boilermakers swept the regular-season and tournament titles in 2022-23, and are looking to make another title run as star big man Zach Edey returns for another season. Edey was last season’s top scorer and conference MVP, and was predictably voted the preseason player of the year by B1G media.
Purdue was not the unanimous first-place pick. Tom Izzo’s Michigan State team received 4 first-place votes, coming in second overall on the conference preseason poll. Izzo recently told reporters that he loves seeing the preseason hype for the Spartans.
