Braelon Allen is breaking tackles and breaking news. The latter might be the bigger news heading into the offseason.
Allen announced he would be returning to Wisconsin for his 3rd season Tuesday afternoon via his Twitter account. Allen had been rumored to potentially listen to offers from other programs, but ultimately elected to stay another year in Madison.

A 2-year starter, Allen became a household name following his freshman season. In 2021, he rushed for 1,268 yards on 186 carries and scored 12 touchdowns. This past fall, he finished 4th among B1G runners, rushing for 1,126 on 208 carries and scoring 10 touchdowns in 11 games.
Following a loss to Iowa, reports began to swirl that Allen was listening to offers from other programs, including B1G rival Michigan, to leave this offseason for a bigger NIL pay raise. Allen downplayed the rumors, stating that he had not spoken to the program, but does have a friend on the Wolverines going back to his high school career.
Allen later confirmed that the friend was a receiver on Michigan’s offense and was not star running back Donovan Edwards.
“I would say I honestly haven’t had any contact with Michigan, that’s the honest truth,” Allen said last month. “I have a friend on the team. I’ve never talked to Donovan (Edwards) in my life. It’s a receiver that I’ve known throughout my whole high school career.”
Allen even directly referenced those Michigan rumors in a separate Instagram post Tuesday:

Allen’s return is monumental for the Badgers and new head coach Luke Fickell. Last season, Wisconsin finished 53rd nationally in rushing (173.25 yards per game) and 66th in rushing touchdowns (19). Allen, who split carries with Chez Mellusi and Isacc Guerendo, recorded 46% of Wisconsin’s rush attempts in 2022.
Guerendo announced Tuesday that he would be entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.
