Illinois is off and running in 2021, securing a win to open the season against Nebraska.

Taking on the Huskers at home, Illinois found its groove in the second quarter with 14 points in the period. That included a dramatic scoop and score with Calvin “CJ” Hart Jr. running it in for the score just before the break.

Unfortunately, the afternoon was not entirely clean for the Illini. The team sustained a couple of key injuries, including one to Hart.

The other key injury came to starting quarterback Brandon Peters. He was taken down hard on one sack and came up grabbing his arm and shoulder. Peters was helped off the field and to the locker room and did not return to action.

Prior to the injury, Peters was 3-for-4 passing with 35 yards. Following the game, Bielema confirmed the injury was to Peters’ left shoulder.

Other than that, Bielema did not have an update on the injuries to Hart or Peters:

Illinois will be back in action next Saturday, hosting UT San Antonio at home. Hopefully, both players are able to return to action quickly.
