Connor Stalions will be back on the sidelines as an assistant coach in 2024, according to a report.
Per the Detroit News’ David Goricki, Stalions is set to be the defensive coordinator at Mumford High School in Detroit this fall. That news was confirmed by Mumford head coach William McMichael this week.
“I got the most hated man in college football right now, Connor Stalions,” McMichael said Thursday, via the Detroit News. “He’s my defensive coordinator.”
McMichael is the father of former Michigan linebacker Jeremiah Beasley. An ex 4-star recruit, Beasley enrolled early at Michigan in the class of 2024 but transferred to Missouri after Jim Harbaugh’s departure.
Stalions was previously a staffer under Harbaugh at Michigan, but resigned last year following allegations over a sign-stealing scheme that he was allegedly the architect of.
He’s currently under NCAA investigation and is expected to be accused of Level I violations when Michigan officially receives the Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. A draft of the NOA that was reported on by ESPN earlier this month alleges that Stalions appeared on Central Michigan’s sideline in disguise during the Chippewas’ Week 1 contest against Michigan State in 2023.
Of course, any punishment from the NCAA would likely not directly impact Stalions’ ability to coach at the high school level. The timeline for the official Notice of Allegations to be delivered to Michigan is unknown at this time.
“I’m not worried about it,” McMichael told the Detroit News. “What happened with the NCAA doesn’t concern us here at Mumford. He comes here every day and gives 120%, and the kids all love him and we’re all learning from him.”
Stalions will also be in the news later this month as Netflix is set to release a documentary detailing his version of events regarding Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal. That documentary will be released on Aug. 27.
Michigan will open the 2024 season against Fresno State on Aug. 31. Stalions’ debut as a defensive coordinator will come 1 day earlier — on Aug. 30 against Thurston.
