Dick Vitale offers condolences after news of Bob Knight’s passing

Dick Vitale stopped what he was doing on Wednesday to offer some kind words to the family of Bob Knight after the news of the longtime Indiana coach’s passing.

Knight passed away at the age of 83 as the news broke via his family. The family released a statement after the passing. He coached the Hoosiers’ basketball program from 1971-2000.

Vitale said that Knight was so good at teaching others how to play the game of basketball. Vitale enjoyed talking basketball with Knight over the years and extended sympathies to the family.

“So sorry to learn of the passing of Bob Knight who was so good in his prime teaching how to play the game.Always loved talking hoops with him over the years,” said Vitale. “My heart goes out to Karen the love of his life & his family & friends.”

Knight had various achievements from his time with Indiana. He led the Hoosiers to three national championships, 11 B1G titles, and 1 NIT title.

One of Knight’s best accomplishments was leading one of his Indiana teams to a perfect 32-0 record in the 1975-1976 season.

Vitale’s voice has long been associated with the game of college basketball. It’s nice to see him offer some condolences to someone he admired.
