We all have an idea of what the top ten teams in college football look like. Every year, though, ESPN decides to pay tribute to some of those teams that are nowhere near that level of success.
ESPN has released its Bottom Ten for the first week of the college football season. It highlights the worst programs in the sport, taking jabs at those 10 schools for poor performance on the field.
Unfortunately, Rutgers made the list.
The Scarlet Knights came in at No. 10 on the list as it prepares to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first college football game ever played. Not exactly the best way to celebrate. Here’s what ESPN had to say about Rutgers filling the No. 10 slot in the Bottom Ten:
10. In a Rut-gers
All season long we will celebrate the 150th anniversary of college football, a sport first played on Nov. 6, 1869 on the Rutgers campus. The home team defeated Princeton in a game played by 50 men at once over the course of a couple of hours, but together produced a total of 10 points. In related news, the 149th Rutgers team averaged 13.5 points per game in 2018, last in the nation. What a tribute.
Rutgers is coming off a 1-11 season last year, going winless in B1G play. This will mark the fourth year of the Chris Ash era, and many are anticipating it could be his last.

The Scarlet Knights open the season against UMass on Friday night. We’ll see if they can get off to a good start against the Minutemen.
