ESPN’s FPI predicts remaining schedule for Penn State

No. 4 Penn State will face major challenge when it travels to face No. 5 Iowa on Oct. 9 (4 p.m. EST/FOX). Penn State is coming off a 24-0 shutout victory vs. Indiana.
Here is a look at every game left on Penn State’s schedule in terms of win probability, according to ESPN’s FPI:
- Oct. 9: at Iowa– 40.8% (L)
- Oct. 23: vs. Illinois – 92.7% (W)
- Oct. 30: at Ohio State – 24.8% (L)
- Nov. 6: at Maryland – 77.5% (W)
- Nov. 13: vs. Michigan – 48.3% (L)
- Nov. 20: vs. Rutgers – 84.5% (W)
- Nov. 27: at Michigan State– 50.6% (W)
Despite currently being undefeated, the FPI has Penn State going 4-3 the rest of the season. The FPI is predicting Penn State to lose to Iowa, Ohio State and Michigan.
Penn State’s win over Indiana registered a game score of 84. The game score metric refers to “Measure of game performance including how well the team controlled the game along with the final result, accounting for site and opponent strength. On a 0 to 100 scale, where 100 is best.”
Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford was recently added to the Maxwell Award watch list for his stellar beginning to the 2021 campaign.
Iowa is coming off a 51-14 blowout victory vs. Maryland. Iowa won last season’s meeting but Penn State leads the all-time series 17-13.
