ESPN’s FPI has chosen the victor of Rutgers’ 2nd game of the season. Rutgers is taking on Wagner in its home opener.

The Scarlet Knights are fresh off of an exciting comeback victory over Boston College. The Scarlet Knights were down 21-12 in the 3rd quarter, and rattled off 10 straight to beat the Eagles. Al-Shadee Salaam ended the Scarlet Knights’ 96-yard game-winning drive with a touchdown, to secure the 22-21 win.

There is one question facing Rutgers in the near future. Noah Vedral’s injury status was enough to keep him out of the season opener. It’ll be interesting to see if Gavin Wimsatt or Evan Simon will be taking equal snaps from now on.

Regardless of the QB concerns for Rutgers, the Football Power Index gives the Scarlet Knights a 99.3% chance to beat Wagner. Rutgers has dubbed the home opener as the “Back to the Birthplace Game”.

Rutgers is playing Temple next on the schedule, and could potentially be 3-0 heading into the conference opener against Iowa on Sept. 24. Hopefully by that point Greg Schiano will have the QB situation all figured out.

It doesn’t look like the Scarlet Knights will need a comeback to win this time around. Rutgers and Wagner square off Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on BTN.
