ESPN’s FPI is updating the outlook for the 2023 season after the Week 5 slate of college football. In the B1G, the outlook for the league title includes the same group of heavy hitters near the top.
After Michigan had fallen to roughly a 10% shot to win the B1G after Week 4, the Wolverines chipped back into the FPI’s B1G Championship odds with a major road win. Though Michigan is still 3rd in the B1G in regard to the updated FPI, the Wolverines are now given a 15.9% chance to secure a 3-peat in the conference.
Ohio State still leads the way on the FPI after being idle with a bye week. Penn State checks in behind the Buckeyes but slid slightly after a sluggish start against Northwestern.
Wisconsin and Iowa still lead in terms of B1G West teams competing for the league. Maryland is particularly noteworthy with the Terrapins not given a realistic shot of competing for the conference despite a 5-0 start.
Here is the updated B1G outlook per the FPI:
- Ohio State — 42.5%
- Penn State — 26.2%
- Michigan — 15.9%
- Wisconsin — 10.6%
- Iowa — 2.9%
- Maryland — 1.2%
While the FPI has a different picture, Michigan remains the betting favorite in the Big Ten Championship odds this season. Ohio State is the next closest on those odds with The Game once again looming large.
