Former Nebraska player calls out program for Bo Pelini firing in wake of Illinois loss

In hindsight, firing Bo Pelini may have not been a very good idea.

Nebraska parted ways with Pelini after the 2014 season. He had just led the Huskers to their seventh consecutive nine-win season, but he had never gotten more than 10 victories in a single season.

So the Huskers moved on. Almost seven years later, as the Huskers are coming off a Week 0 loss to Illinois, former Nebraska player Kieron Williams is wondering why Scott Frost is continuing to get chances.

Williams played defensive back at Nebraska from 2014-17 and was a true freshman during Pelini’s last year in Lincoln. He mostly contributed on special teams that season, blocking three punts.

Frost is now 12-21 in 3+ seasons as Nebraska’s head coach. Following the Huskers’ 30-22 loss on Sunday — which included numerous avoidable mistakes — Nebraska fans called for Frost’s job on Twitter.

Since Pelini was fired, Nebraska has just one nine-win season and two bowl berths. Mike Riley lasted three seasons and compiled a 19-19 record before stepping down.

Nebraska has a new athletic director in Trev Alberts, so it will be interesting to see how much patience the Huskers’ athletic department has with Frost as he moves through Year 4 in Lincoln.

Nebraska will try to get in the win column this week as it hosts Fordham.
