Previously, Alabama’s Mac Jones was the favorite to land at No. 3 overall. While the consensus is shifting toward Fields, it’s unclear what the 49ers will do on draft day.
Fields’ draft stock ranges from No. 3 overall to all the way outside the top-10, depending on how the board falls. He could end up with a number of teams, including the 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.
Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and BYU’s Zach Wilson are widely expected to be the top two picks in the draft.
According to Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft, he’s expecting seven Big Ten players to go in the first round.
The NFL draft is April 29-May 1.
